Rear Facing Camera Applications 
A camera mounted on the rear of the vehicle can provide a number of important driver assistance functions in addition to being displayed to the driver via a monitor, if coupled with an intelligent vision module. Mobileye’s core technologies such as Vehicle detection and pedestrian detection are applicable also in rear-facing camera.

Examples of possible applications are:

Collision Mitigation
The Vision system detects vehicles approaching from the rear and can identify impending rear-end collisions. A warning can be issued to the driver preferable from the rear direction, and in addition actions can automatically taken by the vehicle in order to activate pre-crash functions such as pre-tensioning of seat belts.
 
Reverse Obstacle Warning
The rear facing camera can be utilized in a manner identical to the forward facing camera once the reverse gear is engaged and can provide information and warnings to the drivers when approaching relevant obstacles.
 
Pedestrian Detection
Mobileye’s pedestrian detection can be applied in rear-facing applications to notify the driver when there are pedestrians in the vicinity of the vehicle’s rear, and warnings can be provided to the driver. The system can be activated both when the car is stopped or during reversing. Rear-view cameras typical have a wide field of view allowing detection both of pedestrians behind the vehicle as well as of pedestrians crossing into the vehicles path.
